Digestive Health

In Chinese Medicine, the digestive system is considered the root of our health as a whole. If our digestion is healthy and strong, we are able to absorb nutrients that go into our blood and feed our body.

The Impact of Great Digestion
Having great digestion means having nutrient rich blood. This has a huge impact.
• It feeds our brain, improving memory, learning, focus and cognitive ability
• It fuels our energy reserves and immunity
• It feeds our organs, so the function of each one improves
• It nourishes our muscles and tendons, reducing the risk of injury
• Improves the quality of our hair, skin and nails
• It nourishes our reproductive health

When stress hits, the first place the body will steal resources from is the digestion. When we go into a fight or flight response, or a high adrenaline situation, our blood and energy is drawn away from our digestive system.

With acupuncture, we can give the body the time to restore digestive balance and a way to reset an over-stressed nervous system.

Our Changing World

The world is changing from blue collar to white collar and so many jobs now require mental contemplation as opposed to physical strength. This change means that many people are sitting at desks using most of their body’s resources to fuel their brains. This can rob the rest of the body, and most common place this drain shows up is in the digestion.

What I’m Seeing
So many of my patients are having digestive issues. To name a few:

  • Abdominal Pain
  • Acid Reflux (GERD)
  • Bloating
  • Chronic Diarrhea
  • Indigestion
  • Chronic Constipation
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Colitis, Crohn’s)
  • Ulcers
  • Hemorrhoids

When we put great food into our bodies, we expect to be nourished. We can often feel the impact of a good meal throughout our day. When we put good things in, good things happen. It’s the same with relationships, work and life in general. The better the ingredients, the better the outcome.

The thing we often forget about is the system itself. If we are putting great food into a system that has been compromised and exhausted, the results can feel confusing. Our rich nutrients are not giving us the benefits we expect because we simply can’t absorb them.

It’s wonderful to see my patients experience the results of their treatments. Not only do they find a significant improvement in their digestive symptoms, but they also experience the wave of higher energy, and improved health that good digestion brings.
