What makes acupuncture particularly attractive to many is its holistic approach to healing, offering a safe and natural method free from long-term side effects. Beyond addressing existing concerns, acupuncture empowers the body to heal itself physically, emotionally, and mentally, fostering balance and well-being from head to toe.
Its preventative nature also makes it a powerful tool for maintaining health, enhancing resilience, and reducing the risk of future illnesses. By supporting the body’s innate ability to restore harmony, acupuncture provides a comprehensive path to lasting vitality and wellness.
Acupuncture is a traditional healing therapy that has been practiced for thousands of years. It is used to diagnose, cure, and prevent illness through the practice of moving Qi (pronounced Chee), which is considered a vital energy in the human body.
By inserting thin, hair-like needles into specific points along the energetic pathways called Meridians, we are able to move the Qi and restore balance within a patient’s body. This creates a balanced system called Homeostasis, which promotes healing. Acupuncture is used for acute and chronic conditions, pain relief, and strengthening the immune system.
I use single-use, pre-sterilized, thin, hair-like needles made from stainless steel. Each needle is only used once and then discarded into a biohazard container. I am fully registered with the CCHP of British Columbia and am able to provide the safest and most effective treatment for you.
One of the greatest advantages of acupuncture is the absence of serious or long-term side effects. It is also an all-natural and drug free therapy.
This is one of the first questions a new patient often asks! The needles are hair-thin and most patients do not even feel the majority of them being inserted. Sensation is unique to each person, so if you do feel anything, you might feel slight numbness, tingling, warmth, heaviness or lightness.
For me, a successful treatment is when my patient can fall asleep during the treatment! I’m able to create this experience about 75% of the time.
Our world is changing and what we want out of life is changing too. We don’t just want financial success; we want long term health and wellness.
Although almost everyone will experience illness at some point in our lives, the recognition of the mind-body connection through Traditional Chinese medicine and Acupuncture theory can impact the degree of the illness and the speed of recovery within a patient.
Many extended health plans do provide coverage for acupuncture and will reimburse you. You will need to check with your plan provider about their process as each plan is different.
In British Columbia, MSP will cover a portion of your visit for qualifying individuals. Please inquire with them on how to submit your receipt to get this reimbursement.
Before your first visit, you will be sent an Acupuncture Intake Form. This should take about 20 minutes to fill out and should be submitted prior to your first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to reflect on your main concerns regarding your health in the comfort of your home. It also gives me a good starting point to the treatment you need, allowing me to provide more value in each session.
During every acupuncture visit, we’ll discuss what’s been happening with your health and as well as your concerns. To help me diagnose issues more accurately, I may sometimes take your pulse or ask to see your tongue. These are both methods within Traditional Chinese Medicine and I’m happy to explain more about them during the session if you wish.
Often spelled ‘Chi’. Some people feel a sensation of energy spreading throughout the body or around the needle. This is a very common and normal signal called the sensation of Qi. After a treatment, it is common to feel a deep sense of relaxation or a boost of energy.
Acupuncture treatment plans vary depending on individual factors like constitution, illness severity, and the quality of your Qi. Some patients feel immediate relief, while others need more time to experience the benefits. I recommend that new patients start with 4 to 6 weekly or biweekly treatments to fully experience the lasting, transformative effects of acupuncture on the body, mind, and spirit.
For acute conditions, treatments may start at once or twice a week, gradually reducing as symptoms improve. For preventative care, monthly or quarterly visits may be more appropriate.
